I researched what colorectal surgeons know how to repair and deal with fistula patients. Dr Smallwood by far is the most knowledgeable and experienced surgeon for this problem. My previous surgeon I didn’t research because I was mainly still in shock and didn’t take the time to credential her. I had surgery in Sherman and will say it was a 5 star experience and I did not need him to prescribe any opioids. Very impressed with the outcome. Trust him and his nurse Ann with your colon issues.

What’s a board certification and why is it important that my provider has one?

A board certification represents a provider’s dedication to ongoing training in one or more specialties, including the completion of intensive exams. While not all specialties have board certifications, if your provider does have one they’ve taken the extra step to master their specialty and to keep up with the latest advancements in their field.
