How likely are you to recommend Dr. Berman?
I was fully dressed and about to slip away from the Fairfax Breast Center when the medical assistant called my name. A 3D Mammogram and a breast ultrasound had seemed quite enough for one day. I was definitely having second thoughts about the breast ultrasound biopsy, to which I had consented less than an hour earlier. What I will always remember about meeting Dr. Berman was her warmth, kindness and attentive listening as I explained the reasons for my sudden about-face. Her gentle, non-judgmental and responsive manner in our subsequent discussion helped me realize that my initial decision to undergo the procedure was the right one. Intuitively, she had responded to my underlying ambivalence, fear and anxiety. Intellectually, she had allowed me to work through my objections. Finally, with my written consent, Dr. Berman went to work. She calmly described each step as she obtained breast tissue specimens for analysis. Dr. Berman won my respect. She made me feel seen, heard and valued.
