Will my stomach shrink after hernia repair?

With a hiatal hernia, the stomach herniates (pushes through) an opening in the diaphragm into the abdominal cavity. After surgery to repair the hernia, the size of the stomach remains the same as before.

With a vental hernia, abdominal contents such as fat or intestines push out through a weakened area of the abdominal wall, resulting in a bulge. Surgical repair of the hernia should correct this bulge.
