Tokyo (JCNN) - FANCL announced on April 6 that the company has confirmed a mechanism in which germinated brown rice lowers the level of blood cholesterol.

In collaboration with the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, FANCL conducted mice experiments. The experiment results showed that an intake of germinated brown rice enhances the biosynthesis of bile acid using cholesterol, and promotes fecal steroid excretion including bile acid.

Based on these findings, the joint research group has concluded that, by eliminating excess cholesterol, germinated brown rice helps lower the level of blood cholesterol.

Detailed research results were presented at the Annual Meeting of Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry 2005 held in Sapporo, on March 30.
