Sterilin Limited, the established leader in single use laboratory plastics for life science applications, presents the Iwaki® range of tissue culture products. The Iwaki branded tissue culture products are signified by their distinctive purple cap. They offer an incomparable level of product quality, service and support for cell biologists. The Iwaki cell culture range consists of standard non-treated and tissue culture treated ware, and also offers an extensive range of substrate coated products in order to combat problems associated with in vitro cell culture.

Standard cell culture products are not suitable for all applications and problems often arise when attempting to culture cells in vitro, as a result of encouraging them to grow on an unnatural plastic or glass base rather than on the macromolecular connective tissue which normally binds them together in vivo. This connective tissue, known as the extracellular matrix, generally consists of proteins, polysaccharides and proteoglycans. When cultured in contact with extracellular matrix proteins, cells that are usually difficult to nurture in artificial environments will form a monolayer of cells showing improved cell attachment and growth.

The Iwaki coated ware range has significant benefits over non-coated tissue culture products, and in-house coated products such as ensuring reproducibility and consistency of results. In addition, the Iwaki product range offers considerable time savings over 'home-made' products and will demonstrate lower serum requirements. The culture substrates available in the Iwaki range include Collagen Type 1, Fibronectin, Gelatin and Poly-L-Lysine and Polyethylene Imine and Iwaki's unique thin collagen gel membrane.

To complement its standard cell culture products, the Iwaki range also offers a unique range of glass-based dishes, multiwell plates and chamber slides for unrivalled optical clarity in complex cell biology research.

Sterilin Limited offers a wide range of products for the pharmaceutical, clinical and healthcare, food, forensics and industrial packaging industries. Formerly part of Barloworld Scientific, Sterilin Limited comprises of four established product brands: Sterilin® single use plastics; Iwaki® tissue culture products; Sterilin Silicone Devices (formerly Esco® Silicone Rubber); Sterilin Packaging Products (formerly Azlon® Packaging).
