Main Category: MRSA / Drug ResistanceArticle Date: 21 Jul 2008 - 2:00 PDT
Figures released today show that MRSA and CDiff are reducing at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
In the last three months there have been 3 MRSA blood stream infections in the hospital, compared with 8 in the same period last year. This shows a 12 month reduction of 62%.
In the same three months this year there have been 16 post 48 hour CDiff isolates, compared with 23 last year. This shows a reduction of 30%.
Director of Governance and Nursing Martine Price said "These figures show that we are making great progress in our commitment to reducing healthcare associated infections at Musgrove Park. Comparing 2007 with 2006 we saw reductions of over 60% in both MRSA and C. Difficile. Now in the first three months of 2008 we are seeing that downward trend continue. We have not had a case of MRSA in the hospital for the past 75 days. This is good news for patients, visitors and staff. However, we are not complacent and will continue to prioritise efforts to further reduce the incidence of infections at the hospital".
